Kroger Adding More Organic Items
Posted by Susan Ponsolle on 08-09-07 Chicago, Aug 8 - Kroger Co, the largest mainstream U.S. grocer, said on Wednesday it was adding more than 60 organic items to its in-house line with a focus on breakfast and dinner foods to meet consumer demand.Kroger said most of the new products, which include organic peanut butter and milk, should be in stores by the end of September. The products are being sold under the company's Private Selection brand and have the USDA Organic Certified seal, which assures at least 95 percent of the ingredients are organic.
The move comes as Whole Foods Market Inc, the world's largest natural and organic grocery chain, is trying to buy Wild Oats Markets Inc.Cincinnati-based Kroger has another line of natural and organic foods called Naturally Preferred, which it started selling five years ago.
